Are subtitle files uploaded to a server?
No. NativeVid runs fully locally, and subtitle file processing happens on your own computer. Only translation requests are sent to your configured API provider, while the subtitle file itself is not uploaded.
Does translation require an internet connection?
Yes. NativeVid is local software, but translation needs to call large language model APIs such as OpenAI or DeepSeek, so a network connection is required. The subtitle file itself is not uploaded, only the translation requests.
Can NativeVid be used offline?
Partly. Translation itself requires an online API, but file selection, parameter setup, and result review can all be used offline. Once a translation is finished, reviewing and managing results does not require a network connection.
Can I translate multiple files in batch?
Yes. NativeVid supports folder-based batch translation. You can select a whole folder, and the app will process every subtitle file inside it while showing progress for each file.
Does translation consume API quota?
Yes. Translation uses the API service you configured, so it consumes the related API quota. Choose a suitable model based on subtitle file size to balance quality and cost.
What should I do if translation fails?
If translation fails, check: 1) whether the API key is configured correctly; 2) whether the network connection is working; 3) whether you still have enough API quota; and 4) whether the subtitle format is correct. If needed, switch or adjust the model in Settings.
What does terminology extraction mean?
Terminology extraction automatically identifies names, places, organizations, and similar terms in subtitles and keeps them consistent during translation. For example, the same character name will use the same translation throughout the file.
